Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Preposterous

Gu Ran stared blankly at the phone that had already hung up. She felt like she’d just hallucinated.

She heard Wen Zhizhi caring about her.

She told her to get some rest early…

Changed!

Wen Zhizhi really seemed to have changed.

Then what about the things that were supposed to happen in the dream?

The reason Gu Ran called Wen Zhizhi so late was because she’d had a very realistic dream.

In the dream, Wen Zhizhi was a vain, vicious woman.

She insisted on following her back to the Gu family not for any so-called sisterhood, but to use the Gu family to shed her country bumpkin identity and fully integrate into Beicheng’s wealthy circles.

For that, she did a lot of outrageous things.

Just out of jealousy for her status as the Gu family’s eldest young miss, jealous of everything she had now, she seduced Eldest Brother, trying to snatch away everything she owned, wanting to use the status of the Gu family’s daughter-in-law to lord over her.

Unfortunately, those petty tricks of Wen Zhizhi’s weren’t worth mentioning in front of Eldest Brother, who navigated the business world with ease.

Eldest Brother not only saw through Wen Zhizhi’s schemes, he also publicly exposed her ugly face.

When Eldest Brother was about to drive Wen Zhizhi back to the countryside, it was her, holding onto that bit of childhood affection, who begged Eldest Brother to let her stay.

She thought Wen Zhizhi would change like she promised.

Unfortunately, she underestimated human nature, and she underestimated Wen Zhizhi’s jealousy.

Wen Zhizhi didn’t change at all. Instead, she went even further and set her sights on her younger brother Gu Yan, who was three years younger than her.

In the dream, tonight was when Wen Zhizhi would take the chance to sneak into the club where Little Brother was gathering with his buddies, drug his drink, and try to climb into his bed to sit in the position of the Gu family’s second young madam…

Whether Wen Zhizhi succeeded in the end, she didn’t know.

Because halfway through the dream…

She woke up!

Everything that happened in the dream was too real.

She didn’t know if it was just daytime thoughts manifesting as nighttime dreams, or if it was foreshadowing something?

She wanted to confirm it.

So she dialed Wen Zhizhi’s number.

And the result…

Seemed a bit different from the dream…

After staring at her phone for a while, Gu Ran dialed Gu Yan’s number.

The first time she called, no one answered.

Gu Ran’s heart skipped a beat, and something seemed to explode in her brain.

No wonder Wen Zhizhi was so easy to talk to tonight. Turns out her scheme was about to succeed, so she was even willing to give her a good attitude.

Gu Ran was a die-hard fan of trashy short dramas, and right now her brain was full of scenes of the vicious female supporting character bullying the pure, kind, weak, powerless, sickly male lead.

Even though Gu Yan had absolutely nothing to do with a pure, kind, weak, powerless, sickly male lead.

But in the dream, Wen Zhizhi drugged Gu Yan’s drink.

A man under the influence of drugs is just a paper tiger anyone can mold…

Gu Ran got up and rushed toward the door, dialing Gu Yan’s number again on the phone in her hand.

Thank god, this time the call finally connected.

Before Gu Ran could breathe a sigh of relief, a brash female voice came through the phone, “Who are you? I’m busy, what a buzzkill!” After saying that, she hung up cleanly and decisively.

Gu Ran’s hand gripping the phone froze.

The woman’s tone on the phone was seventy to eighty percent similar to Wen Zhizhi’s.

I’m busy…

What a buzzkill…

Busy doing what in the middle of the night? What could she be busy with?

And why was it a buzzkill?

Her brain couldn’t help but be occupied by trashy short drama plots again…

The kind with colors, the kind that needed censoring…

Gu Ran hurriedly rushed downstairs.

She remembered the name of the club from the dream.

She didn’t know if rushing over now could save her pitiful little brother…

Gu Ran made too much noise going downstairs, alerting Gu Chen on the same floor.

“Not sleeping in the middle of the night, what are you running down for in such a hurry?” Gu Chen looked at Gu Ran rushing downstairs and frowned.

Gu Ran’s steps heading downstairs paused. She glanced back at Gu Chen, looking like she wanted to say something but held back.

She wanted to say Wen Zhizhi might be doing this and that NSFW stuff to Little Brother right now…

But she was afraid she’d misunderstood Wen Zhizhi.

Actually, thinking about it carefully, that brash voice on the phone earlier wasn’t that similar to Wen Zhizhi…

Gu Chen was way too familiar with the expression on Gu Ran’s face. He furrowed his brows and said knowingly, “What did Wen Zhizhi do this time?”

Gu Ran didn’t dare hide it. “Little Brother’s phone won’t connect, I’m worried something happened to him!”

Regardless of whether the woman on the phone was Wen Zhizhi or not, Gu Ran’s worry for Gu Yan was genuine.

Gu Ran didn’t mention anything related to Wen Zhizhi, but how could someone as shrewd as a fox like Gu Chen not guess?

He had an idea in his heart. It seemed Gu Yan’s phone not connecting had something to do with Wen Zhizhi.

Thinking of something, a flash of disgust crossed Gu Chen’s indifferent eyes.

Failing to seduce him, she set her sights on Little Brother instead.

“It’s getting late, go back to your room and rest. I’ll handle Ah Yan’s matter,” Gu Chen instructed, then turned around and went back into the room behind him.

How could Gu Ran sleep now?

She went to wait in the living room downstairs.

Waiting for Wen Zhizhi, and also waiting for news from Gu Chen.

Gu Chen was very efficient.

In less than ten minutes, he came downstairs fully dressed.

Seeing Gu Chen looking like he was about to go out, Gu Ran had a bad premonition. If it required Eldest Brother to personally step in, things weren’t simple.

“Eldest Brother, are you going out?” Gu Ran stood up from the sofa, walked toward Gu Chen, and asked tentatively.

Gu Chen nodded. “Ah Yan’s phone won’t connect. I’ll go pick him up myself.”

Gu Yan’s phone hadn’t connected.

But he had already grasped all of Gu Yan and Wen Zhizhi’s movements tonight.

His guess was spot on. Wen Zhizhi really had set her sights on Gu Yan.

Gu Ran asked with a sliver of hope, “Does Eldest Brother know where Little Brother is?”

Gu Chen: “Dihao Club!”

Gu Ran: “…”

It matched!

It matched the location in the dream!

So…

Was Wen Zhizhi also at Dihao Club?

Did she really have the guts to drug Little Brother?

Gu Chen’s next words completely extinguished that sliver of hope in Gu Ran’s heart.

“Wen Zhizhi is also at Dihao Club!”

As for why Wen Zhizhi would appear at a club Gu Yan frequented, the siblings both knew perfectly well.

Gu Ran: “…”

Forget it!

Let it all burn!

This time, no matter what Wen Zhizhi said, she wouldn’t beg for mercy for her anymore.

If seducing Eldest Brother was just a problem of morals and character.

Then drugging someone was a crime!

She couldn’t shelter an “outlaw” staying in the house.

“Eldest Brother, can I go with you?” She wanted to see it with her own eyes, so she could completely sever that bit of familial affection in her heart.

Gu Chen wanted to refuse, but thinking of something, he nodded.

Fine. Letting his little sister see Wen Zhizhi’s true colors with her own eyes would help her give up sooner.

The Gu family didn’t mind feeding one more person, but they absolutely wouldn’t allow an idiot who could ruin the Gu family’s reputation anytime, anywhere to stay in the house.

Gu Ran didn’t even bother changing clothes. She grabbed Gu Chen’s arm and rushed out the door.

The siblings had just driven out of the villa gates when they ran into Wen Zhizhi getting out of a taxi.

The moment she saw Wen Zhizhi, Gu Ran was delighted. “Eldest Brother, stop the car quickly, I see Wen Zhizhi.”

Wen Zhizhi’s appearance meant she wasn’t lying. From Dihao Club to their home, even without traffic, it took at least half an hour.

It had been just over thirty minutes since Wen Zhizhi called her.

So…

That brash woman on Gu Yan’s phone really wasn’t Wen Zhizhi.

Then those things in the dream weren’t real either…

Gu Chen also saw Wen Zhizhi.

He was also surprised by Wen Zhizhi appearing at this exact moment, and pulled the car over to the side.
